Scotty and I got to the show, with around 100 lbs of camera equipment. Ready for any possible scenario that could be thrown at us.
We were greeted by the Parlour team, and quickly jumped into planing our assault on the shoot. The plan was to take our first couple shots in an empty hall, two large gridded boxes blasting from each side, as seen below.

After we fired off about 15 different poses it was getting down to crunch time.  We packed up our gear in record breaking time, and I mean that.  What normally would take us about 15-20 minutes to pack, took us roughly 2 minutes. It wasn’t the most organized, but we got the job done.

Now the task was to move all the equipment up three flights of stairs to where we were going to shoot on this cool catwalk, 3 stories above a bunch of intoxicated Show-goers.

Just as quickly as we packed up our gear, we had unpacked it, positioned the chairs for the guys to sit in, and started shooting. We had one strobe positioned camera left, with a giant softbox attached to even out the strong ambient light coming from the right. During the scramble to get everything packed up from the last spot, something must’ve shaken loose on our powerpack for the strobes. The strobe was not firing. Thank god for the high ISO capabilities of the D3s! I adjusted my settings and began to shoot with only the available light. Didn’t exactly give me the look I was hoping for, but the pictures turned out pretty good considering the situation that was handed to us.

Bang bang, that’s a wrap. We got the shots we needed. Packed up our gear again, only this time properly, and went and enjoyed the rest of the show. Chromeo Put on a fantastic show to say the least.  I cant wait till I get to see them play live again.

The sculpture was made from a pretty large sailboat that has been cut in half and has a modified keel to make the boat look as though it is capsizing.

Apparently Julien has taken this floating masterpiece to a number harbors  throughout Europe including Canary Wharf in London and Normandy in France
